Žinkovy Castle is a picturesque historic château set in a tranquil landscape of ponds and greenery, just a short distance from the town of Žinkovy. Its peaceful surroundings and romantic atmosphere make it an ideal destination for visitors seeking history, architecture, and relaxation.
History & Architecture
The origins of the site date back to the 12th century, though the present château developed from a Late Gothic water fortress built in the early 1500s. Over the centuries, it was gradually transformed into a noble residence.
At the end of the 19th century, the château gained its current appearance through an extensive reconstruction led by Viennese architect Karl Wessely. The result is an elegant combination of Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles, giving the building its distinctive and refined character.
A Place with Stories
Žinkovy Castle has been home to prominent noble families and later to the industrialist Karel Škoda. In the 20th century, it served as a recreational retreat and even became a filming location for the beloved Czech fairy tale The Proud Princess.
